Vacation Ideas For Hawaii
I received a note from Jacky Rogers who has a travel site devoted to travel in an RV and he has some great ideas about what to see and do in Hawaii, even if you are staying in a hotel or your timeshare resort. Check out his site here.
I also get a lot of questions that are a little more specific, such as what are the things that we should do when we go to Hawaii.
Here is an example of what I recently provided to friends who are going to Oahu. It is not a complete list of everything, but just some ideas.
- Pearl Harbor
- Parasailing
- Hike Diamond Head
- Pali Lookout on Highway 61, not the new Interstate over the Island.
- International Marketplace (if it is still there)
- Hanauma Bay State Park for snorkeling
- The Banyan Tree in Waikiki
- Hilo Hattie at the Ala Moana Mall
- Leonard’s Hot Malasadas (The Bakery is usually busy, so their malasada mobile trucks may be a better choice. https://leonardshawaii.com/malasadamobile/)
- The Highway Inn https://www.myhighwayinn.com/ or Haili’s https://www.hailishawaiianfood.com/ for real Hawaiian food.
- https://www.lilihabakery.com/ at 515 N. Kuakini Street
- The Golden Duck Chinese Restaurant on S. King Street (I do know that it was shut down by the City in 2022 for cleanliness issues, but it is still loved by the locals. I also don’t know if it still open since I have not visited Oahu for a couple of years.)
- Shave Ice at Haleiwa (You can get it all over the island too.)
- Polynesian Cultural Center
- The Museum of Natural History at the BYU campus near the Polynesian Cultural Center.
- Aloha Stadium Swap Meet
- Dole Plantation & Pineapple Maze
- Tropical Macadamia Farms
- Mountain View Farms
- Kahumana Farms
- Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden
- Foster Botanical Garden
- Of course, everyone asks about the best place for a Luau. Here is a page to consider viewing. Oahu Luaus
- Here is a link to a google map with many of the sites noted above. https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1pTE-YxuV5otkuwKwkTZ2D-27mHE&hl=en_US&ll=21.551583398169335%2C-157.99761179231706&z=10
The last item is a personalized Google map showing lots of places to visit. I have not yet taken the time to create my own map so I am sharing one that is pretty close to what I would have created if I did take the time.
Finally, since I am more of a visual person, though you may not believe it when I get to be so wordy on these pages, so I like to share videos that I find.
