Zurich is one of our favorite cities. A visit there can be expensive, but it is worth the trip. We first visited as a pre-destination before our Rhine River Cruise with Viking River Cruises. It was our first river cruise and the beginning of doing more river cruises in Europe. You can read more about it in the Zurich Blog Post. Zurich was a great place to get over the jet lag from our trip from California to Switzerland. We always plan a day or two or three before we embark on a cruise so that we can get over the jet lag and to know for sure that we won’t miss the cruise. One of the options if you book a complete trip with Viking is to do a before or after 3 day visit to a destination that they have selected. Their pre-trip was to Lucerne, Switzerland. We wanted to visit Lucerne, but wanted to see Zurich as well, so chose to do our own pre-trip to Zurich. As you will see from the blog post, we had a great time in Zurich followed by a quite and relaxing train ride to Basel, Switzerland to start the Rhine River Cruise.
